Early Years
Have you heard of Claude Monet, the famous French artist? Well in 1840 a boy named Claude Monet was born in Paris, France. Though he didn't like school, he went because he liked to sketch his friends. Also he like to do most of his painting outdoors. One day at the age of nineteen, he met someone named Eugene Boudin and they went to a trip to the ocean to paint the sea. Very soon as a young adult he decided to become an artist.
Impressionism
Early in his painting career Monet moved back to Paris, France. He created a new art style called impressionism. Impressionism is a style of painting which is not so realistic. The art critics did not like the new style. They said "This painting isn't finished!" and put a big fat R on his paintings. The R means rejected. They also did that to other young impressionist painters at Le Salon where artists took their paintings. The critics felt that Monet's paintings were much too blurry.
Life in Giverny
Later in life, Monet discovered a village called Giverny. He bought a beautiful pink house and lived there with his wife and eight children. There he built his famous lily pond and japanese bridge. In his garden he painted lots of the beautiful water lilies in the pond, which was his favorite flower. Monet died at the age of 86. Today you can see his paintings in famous museums all over the world. So clearly Claude Monet was a famous French painter who is loved by people everywhere.
