Museum Night 2012
We raised over $400 for Japan Tsunami Relief!
Origami Notecard Sale for Japan
This year’s Applied Learning Project started with the literature book, Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes. Students were inspired by the origami art created by the main character, Sadako. After researching the topic of origami, the fun began! Our class started producing origami designs of all sorts, from stars to swans, and pinwheels to pianos. Soon students became budding experts on this fascinating art, almost as old as the invention of paper.
The next step for our project was to design a product that we could produce and market to our Hamilton community. With hundreds of origami cranes, fans, and kimonos, students produced over 200 notecards for sale at this Museum Night. Each student became an integral part of our non-profit organization, working in the Art, Advertising, Marketing, or Production Departments.
Then our exchange students from Osaka, Japan, along with their teacher Mika Archer, came to visit us. Their visit was simply magical! But we were very saddened to learn about the devastation after Japan was hit by a horrible tsunami and earthquake last spring. It is obvious that the people of Tohoku area are still in need of our help. So it was generously decided by students, that all the proceeds from the sale of our notecards, will be used to assist the continued relief efforts in Japan. The money raised from this sale will be sent to Mitsuko and Richard Lee, who work with a construction team for Samaritan’s Purse. While it will take many years to rebuild their country, it is our hope that this project will help in some small way!

Winter Performance Students from Rooms 7, 8, and 10 performed a very beautiful Christmas Carol at our Winter Performance last week. Under the direction of Madame McGaugh, the students sang a multilingual version of Silent NIght for a packed house in Hamilton's Gym. Starting with the English version, followed by the German, then French, and finally a very peaceful sign language version. Wow what a very moving and inspirational performance! Thank you Madame McGaugh for your excellent direction of our students!
