One crisp winter morning, a beautiful woman walked into our classroom. We all wondered who she was. I turned to my frend, JJ and asked, "Who is that?" Well her name was Mrs. Vandergriff and she came to show us all about Chinese Brush Painting. She began by telling us about the Four Treasures of Chinese Painting, which are paper, brushes, ink stone, and ink stick. Some of the brushes she showed us were made out of fox hair, horse hair, and even rabbit hair.
We also learned about the chop. If you don't know what chops are, they are Chinese stamps that you can use to stamp your name on your artwork. The one she used was as beautiful like a butterfly. Last Mrs. Vandergriff invited a few students to join her demonstration of how to draw and paint dragonflies. The lucky students were Ezekiel, Faith, and Aaliyah. But she encouraged us all to try it at home. So at the end, I turned to JJ and said, "Mrs. Vandergriff is a wonderful artist!" Remni and Madi |
On Tuesday morning, a beautiful lady walked in class. Her name was Mrs. Vandergriff and she is a famous painter. Madame Vandergriff taught us the Four Treasures of Calligraphy. They are paper, brushes, ink stone, and ink stick. One of the first things she painted was bamboo. She showed us how to make little strokes and big strokes, and her painting was beautiful. Then she invited three students to go up to the ELMO to help her demonstrate how to paint butterflies and dragonflies. The three students were, Aaliyah, Ezekiel, and my twin sister, Faith.
One thing I remember her saying was that painting takes times and may seem complicated. But just practice a little at a time, then when you get tired rest and try it again later. So as you can see, having a famous painter come to your class is totally cool and awesome! Grace |
Can you imagine a famous artist coming to your classroom to demonstrate beautiful painting? Well I didn’t have to imagine it, because it really happened in Room 3. A lady named Madame Vandergriff taught us all about the Four Treasures of Chinese Brush Painting. The four treasures are paper, brush, ink stone, and ink stick. She first showed us how to paint thin and fat bamboo stalks. You can use a thin brush for the thin strokes, and a fatter brush for the wider bamboo. Her paintings were very pretty. I liked all of her colorful and bright
goldfish pictures. But she said her most popular pictures were her kittens and horses. It was fun to watch her teach three students how to paint dragonflies and butterflies. The lucky ones were Zeek, Faith, and Aaliyah. Now I hope you can imagine what a memorable day was when a famous artist named Mrs. Vandergriff came to our class. Lillianna |
Andy Warhol
"Prince of Pop Art"
Andy Warhol by
Anthony Gardea Why would you buy a painting that cost $50,000,000 made by a man named Mr. Andy Warhol? Well, because it would probably be a very valuable painting. Andy Warhol grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He liked to draw, color, and cut when he was little. As a child, Warhol had a disease called St. Vitus disease which gave him large pink blotches all over his body. Because he was sick, Andy missed a lot of school, and he ate Campbell’s soup at home every day. Later in a college, Andy Warhol studied art. Then Andy worked as an artist for magazines like Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar. He mass produced paintings of everyday things like coke bottles and soup cans. Warhol used bright colors with his silk screen technique. He also painted famous people like Marilyn Monroe, Michael Jackson, and Jackie Kennedy. His popularity increased and he opened a studio called The Factory. So as you can see, Andy Warhol’s paintings are very unique, bold, and colorful. That’s why you should buy a painting by this very popular pop artist called Andy Warhol. |
Andy Warhol by
Riley Cash Why would you ever buy an Andy Warhol painting for over one million dollars? Because it is very valuable, if it is a real Andy Warhol painting. Andy Warhol grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania with his brothers and parents. As a child, Andy Warhol had a disease that attacks the nervous system and makes someone shake uncontrollably. Also, Andy Warhol missed a lot of school. Because of his illness, he also had large pink blotches that appeared on his skin, so kids teased him a lot. When he was home he ate Campbell’s Soup almost every day. As an adult, Andy Warhol worked as an illustrator for famous magazines like Harper’s Bazaar and Vogue. He also mass produced his paintings of products like Coca Cola and Campbell’s Soup. They became very popular and valuable. Then he started painting famous people like Michael Jackson and Marilyn Monroe. He opened his own studio called The Factory and continued to mass produce his work using his famous silk screening technique. So as you can see, Andy Warhol’s paintings could easily be worth $1,000,000. |
