Friends from Japan
Japanese Exchange Students
by Victoria Koch
There is something exciting going on!!! Japanese exchange came to see Room 8 students to talk about their culture, games, food, origami, and writing. After we met them at the cafeteria, we ate lunch with them, and some of them even responded to us in English. After that we went to the Music Room with all the 3rd grade classes to learn more about them. We got to see what a real Japanese class is like and listen to a story that the exchange students wrote for us. Then they came back to our class. We had an origami extravaganza, because we made origami boxes, hearts, and cranes. At the end of their visit, they gave us delicious Japanese snacks. Soon they had to leave us. But it was the best day ever!!!
Friends from Osaka, Japan
by Amber Q. and Yvette
Hi! My name is Amber Q. and my name is Yvette. We want to tell you about our friends from Osaka, Japan. It started when Mrs. Pound said, "It's time to meet our Japanese guests!" Then we went to the cafeteria to greet them using our best Japanese "Ohayo gozaimasu!" It was fun because we got to eat lunch with them. We had teriyaki dippers and white rice. Just perfect for our visitors. Then we went outside to play at recess with them. Do you want to know what we did? Well, we taught them how to speak a little English and they taught us some Japanese words and we played some games. Then we went to the Music Room after recess, where they taught us some Japanese dancing and some more Japanese greetings. Last, we went back to our room and did a ton of origami. Soon it was time for them to leave. We were so sad to see them go!
Our Exchange Students
by Alanna, Hannah, and Ruby
Hello! Our names are Ruby, Hannah, and Alanna. We are writing this article to tell you about the Japanese exchange students that came to visit us all the way from Osaka, Japan. First they ate lunch with us. They were a little confused about some of the food on the tray, because they weren't sure what it was. Then we went to the Music Room where they showed us a video about the schools in Japan. Then they taught us a Japanese dance and answered a lot of questions that we had. For example, someone asked "What is your favorite store?" One of their answers was "Forever 21". Can you believe that? Then they read a book called Momotaro in their best English. It was called Peach Boy. Then we went back to our classroom and did a lot, I mean, a lot of origami.
Hannah's favorite part was doing the origami with them. Ruby's favorite part was learning the dance. Alanna's favorite part was learning the dance too! Alanna thought it was magical! Ruby thought it was awesome! Hannah thought it was really fun and she said that she loved it! We all thought that their kimonos were as exquisite as cherry blossoms in spring! Finally at the end when they gave us all medals and their favorite Japanese snacks, we were truly very sad to see them go!

All the Way from Osaka, Japan
by Aidan
Hi, my name is Aidan and I'm eight years old. I'm writing about the Japanese exchange students that came all the way from Osaka, Japan to visit us at Hamilton. They arrived around lunchtime. We were anxious to meet them and it seemed like it took a long time, but they finally got here. We greeted them, and three by three we went inside the cafeteria to eat lunch with them. After lunch, they joined us in the Music Room. They showed us a slideshow of how they live and a video of a Japanese school. Then they came back to our classroom and showed us some new origami like, pianos, frogs, airplanes, star boxes, bombs away, and puppets. But soon, they had to leave. Truly you can see we had a great time while they were here!
